Yes, if you plan to ride on sand dunes, it is highly recommended to use paddle or sand tires. Standard tires are not designed for sand and can quickly become bogged down, making it difficult to maneuver your vehicle. Paddle tires have special treads that scoop and throw sand, allowing your vehicle to maintain traction and move smoothly through the sand. They are specifically designed for sandy terrain and can provide you with a much better riding experience. So, if you're planning on hitting the dunes, paddle or sand tires are definitely worth the investment.
Stock tires that come with ATV's or side by sides are typically not designed for sand dune riding. Sand dunes require specialized tires with a paddle or scoop design to help the vehicle move through the sand. If you try to ride with the stock tires in sand dunes, you may have trouble getting traction and may even get stuck. It's highly recommended to invest in sand tires for your ATV or side by side if you plan on riding in the sand dunes. Using stock tires on sand dunes can cause significant damage to your machine due to the added stress and weight on the drive train. The weight of normal tires puts more stress on the belt and clutches, causing more heat and potential wear and tear. In contrast, paddle tires are designed to provide flotation and traction on top of the sand, reducing stress on the machine and improving performance. Most paddle tires are also lighter than stock tires, typically by around 30%, which further reduces the strain on the drive train. It's always best to use tires specifically designed for sand dune riding to ensure the safety and longevity of your machine.
Side Note - we do offer recovery services if you wreck your machine or blow a belt we can tow you in. We are also a full body and frame shop for wrecked powersports and specialize in Polaris RZR and Can-am Maverick repairs. We do tons of insurance work and claims work as well.
The main difference between regular wheels and beadlock wheels is how the tire is secured to the wheel. Regular wheels have a lip on the outer edge of the wheel that the tire bead rests against, and the tire is held in place by the air pressure within the tire. Beadlock wheels, on the other hand, have a separate ring that clamps the tire bead between the ring and the wheel, providing an additional layer of security to prevent the tire from coming off the wheel in extreme off-road conditions. This can be especially important for vehicles that operate in sand or other loose terrain, where the tire may need to be aired down for increased flotation and traction.
"Man.... the magic question I always get asked." If you are planning to ride in the sand dunes or other off-road terrains, beadlock wheels can be a great investment. Beadlock wheels are designed to keep your tire securely in place on the rim, even when you are running low tire pressure or taking sharp turns at high speeds. This helps to prevent tire bead failure and the risk of a tire coming off the rim. While beadlock wheels may not be necessary for all types of riding, they can provide added peace of mind and protection for your machine in extreme conditions.
"Randy's Personal Recommendation" While beadlock wheels are not necessarily required for driving in sand dunes, they do offer some benefits. Beadlock wheels can help prevent the tire from coming off the rim in low tire pressure situations, which can be common in sandy conditions. Additionally, they can provide better traction and handling in steep terrain and during sharp turns. However, if you are not planning on driving in extreme conditions or at high speeds, regular wheels may suffice. Ultimately, the decision to use beadlock wheels will depend on your personal preference and the type of driving you will be doing in the sand dunes. That being said if you have a high horsepower machine the answer is its a must because you will be running a HP Style of paddle and a beadlock keeps it from spinning on the rim or wheel as it grips. Otherwise you're just blowing them out and tearing up your high priced paddle tires out. Also I have tons of people come in the shop every weekend with doing a bead seal on there tire because it lost air because sand got in between the wheel and tire bead. So we have to break it down clean it out then put some rubber vulcanizing glue on the bead and blow her back up. Now that is generally caused when its super soft in the dunes or from running low air pressure like below five pounds or less. Most paddle tires (not all) are not designed to run below a certain amount of air pressure. Yes I know it works in your truck and the mud. It helps you get traction but this isn't your truck and this isn't mud. I absolutely hate having tire problems so i always recommend beadlocks. I will say though Method wheels has kicked of a new bead grip technology this year that may just solve that problem for those balling on a budget and can't afford the beadlocks. Ultimately, the decision to use beadlock wheels will depend on your individual riding style, preferences and lets be honest here your budget. Because they can be a bit pricey. Hope this long answer helped a bit but if it didn't? Feel free to give us a call if you want to go over your machine and tire setup we can get you squared away.
"Simple" answer is your treaded tires are heavy and they are made to grip or dig into the hard pack for traction. Where sand tires or paddle tires are generally lighter and give flotation while still being able to grip instead of spinning like a normal treaded tire you machine comes with.
"Technical" answer is The main difference between normal tires and paddle tires is the tread pattern. Paddle tires have a distinctive scoop-like tread pattern that is designed to provide maximum traction in loose sand or mud, while normal tires have a more traditional blocky tread pattern that is designed for use on solid surfaces like pavement or hard-packed dirt. Paddle tires are also typically wider and taller than normal tires, which helps to increase the surface area that is in contact with the ground, providing even more traction in soft terrain. Overall, paddle tires are specifically designed for use in sand and mud, and can provide significantly improved performance in these conditions compared to regular tires.

System 3 Off-Road is a well-known brand in the powersports industry, and they offer two models of paddle tires - the SS360 and the SS340.
The SS360 paddle tire is designed for high-horsepower vehicles, with a six-paddle design that offers excellent flotation and traction in sand dunes. It features a reinforced belt construction for durability, and a staggered paddle design that provides maximum control and stability.
The SS340 paddle tire is designed for mid-level horsepower vehicles, with a four-paddle design that also offers excellent flotation and traction in sand dunes. It has a lightweight construction for better acceleration and handling, and a reinforced carcass for increased durability. Both models are available in a range of sizes and are designed to fit a variety of vehicles, including side-by-sides and ATVs and yes we carry these in stock on multiple types of wheels. They work pretty good.
The HP in the System 3 HP Paddle tire stands for High Performance. Or several other manufacturers use this designation as well. Generally when the paddle tire has an HP on it the paddles are taller or thicker sometimes both. The benefit of the HP Paddle tire is its design that combines a lightweight construction with an aggressive paddle pattern, resulting in superior acceleration, maximum flotation, and excellent traction in sand dune environments. These tires are typically used on high-performance machines with higher horsepower and torque, and they can help reduce stress on the drivetrain by providing better traction and flotation, allowing the vehicle to glide over the sand instead of digging into it. Additionally, the lightweight construction of the HP Paddle tire helps reduce rotational mass, which can lead to faster acceleration and better overall handling.
Side Note - Yes we carry these in stock and the SS360 HP are a really a good all around tire for a lot of machines out there epically if you have some mods done on your ride.
The choice between 14 and 16 paddle tires depends on several factors, such as the type of sand and the horsepower of your machine. In general, 14 paddle tires are better suited for lighter and softer sand, while 16 paddle tires are better for heavier and harder sand.
The 14 paddle tire provides better flotation and is more suitable for machines with lower horsepower. It has a wider contact patch with the sand, which helps distribute the weight of the machine more evenly, resulting in better traction and stability. However, it may not be as efficient in harder sand or for high-powered machines.
On the other hand, the 16 paddle tire is better suited for machines with higher horsepower and harder sand. It has a narrower contact patch with the sand, which provides more digging ability and better acceleration. However, it may not perform as well in softer sand or for machines with lower horsepower.
Ultimately, the decision between 14 and 16 paddle tires will depend on your individual needs and preferences. It's best to consult with us or give us a call we are very knowledgeable and can help determine which option is best for you and your machine.
